Speriamo non siate rimasti delusi... nel piccolo scompartimento dei rifiuti indifferenziati ci sono due piccole cose che avrebbero rovinato, per così dire, la festa:
... un pezzetto di nastro adesivo trasparente e una bustina di lievito istantaneo per dolci...
We hope not to having disappointed you... in the little container of the home bin, dedicate to unrecyclable waste, there are two little things that blew almost the celebration:
... a little piece of scotch-tape and a sachet of baking powder for cakes...
Per noi è comunque un grandissimo risultato!
Nessuno è perfetto e dobbiamo ammettere che è veramente difficile evitare che qualcosa finisca nella spazzatura. Sappiamo, tuttavia, che si può ancora migliorare, trovando l'alternativa a ciò che ci ha destabilizzato... abbiamo l'occasione di ripetere la sfida, fra un paio di settimane, vi faremo sapere.
Quando ieri mattina, scherzando con Irish, gli ho detto: "Adesso, appena finita la sfida, ti scatenerai nel buttare tutto nella spazzatura, vero"? Con un'espressione molto contrariata mi ha risposto "Niente affatto! Ora bisognerà assolutamente continuare a fare zero rifiuti"!
Evvaiiiii!!! :D
Questa è la vera vittoria! Modificare le proprie abitudini finché non si riesce a tornare indietro, perché il peso sulla coscienza è più leggero e non vedi più la ragione di tornare ad inquinare!!!
But for us it is a big result the same!
Anyone is perfect and we must admit that it is really hard to avoid to throw anything in the bin. Anyway we know that we can improve much more, finding the alternative at the things that put us in difficulty... we have another chance to repeat the challenge, in two weeks, we'll let you know.
As yesterday morning I joked with Irish and said: "Now that the challenge will end, you'll go wild to throw everything in the bin, don't you"? and he "Not at all! Now, we will absolutely keep to make Zero Waste"!
Yay!!! :D
This is the real victory! To modify our habits in order to not feel the need to go backwards, because the conscience feels more slight and you can't see a reason to pollute anymore!!!
Allora cos'è che ci ha portati a gettare quei due rifiuti nella spazzatura?
Dobbiamo fare il passo indietro di un giorno, appunto ieri. L'immagine sotto può dirvi i rifiuti umidi che abbiamo raccolto in una settimana e che sono finiti nel bidone marrone per andare all'impianto di compostaggio della zona.
So what was the things that brought us to throw those two scraps in the bin?
We have to do a backward step a day ago, yesterday. The photo below can show you the humid garbage we collected in a week, thrown in the brown bin to be composted.
Nella prima mattinata, quindi, siamo usciti per recarci alla stazione ecologica locale per portare delle cose che avevamo raccolto da quasi tre mesi: quattro sacchi di rifiuti del giardino, principalmente aghi di pino – i sacchi di plastica sono stati poi raccolti con la plastica –, una bottiglia da mezzo litro di olio esausto, cinque o sei pile esaurite, una lampada fluorescente a tubolare tolta dal bidone del vetro – dove qualcuno l'aveva irresponsabilmente buttata – un toner di una stampante laser dall'ufficio di Irish.
So, in the first morning we went out to go to the local HWRC, to bring some things we collected in the last three months: four sacks with garden waste, mostly pine-needles – plastic sacks were recycled with plastic – a half litre bottle with used kitchen oil, five or six exhaust batteries, a fluorescent tube lamp we remove from the recycling bin of glass – where somebody irresponsibly throw it – a toner for a laser printer from Irish' office.
Dopo di ciò siamo andati a prelevare la nostra spesa al GAS di Rimini. Salvo un paio di acquisti (zucchero di canna e cacao) recapitati nel sacchetto di carta, e delle zucchine in un sacchetto di HDPE riciclabile, frutta e gli ortaggi che vedete, nelle sportine di stoffa, sono stati recapitati in cassette che vengono poi restituite ai produttori, insieme ai contenitori di plastica, per il riutilizzo. Ma nelle foto guardate bene il formaggio (incartato) come ci è stato recapitato... notate qualcosa di strano?
Sì è proprio lui, il pezzetto di nastro adesivo che abbiamo dovuto buttare! Sulla confezione di carta, reggeva il biglietto col codice assegnato al gasista... ci siamo sentiti bugerati! :(
After that we went to take our purchases in the Local Exchange Group of Rimini. Except two purchases (cane sugar and cocoa) in a paper bag, and zucchini in a HDPE recyclable bag, all fruits and vegetables, you see in the cotton bags, were delivered in boxes that are then returned to the farmers with the plastic containers, for reuse. But do you notice something strange in the photo with the cheese (in a paper sheet)?
Yes, it was that one, the scotch-tape piece we had to throw! On the paper pack it hung the ticket with the number assigned to the member of the group... we felt like pulled our legs!
Dopo questa tappa siamo andati al supermercato a fare gli acquisti della settimana. Cose che non avremmo potuto comprare altrove o che comunque riteniamo più convenienti. Il supermercato in questione è la Coop. Come ho già detto, è una catena di distribuzione molto attenta all'ambiente, tanto da aver eliminato completamente i sacchetti in PE. Ora ci sono solo i sacchetti in Mater-bi, le sportine in tela o le scatole di cartone, come quella di cui ci siamo serviti. After this step we went to the supermarket to purchase the rest for the week. Things that we couldn't have the possibility to purchase in other ways or rather cheap things. The supermarket was the Coop. As I previously said the Coop is more careful towards environment. In fact it eliminated the use of plastic bags. Now you can find only Mater-Bi or cotton bags or at least cardboard boxes, like the one we used to bring all home. You can see in the video below – sorry for the low quality and lack of audio –:

• Carta igienica riciclata Ecolabel con involucro in LDPE riciclabile / Toilet recycled Ecolabel paper in LDPE recyclable packaging
• Uova biologiche in confezione di cartone riciclabile / Organic eggs in a carton recyclable box
• Gnocchi in scatola di PLA compostabile – perdonateci ma il tempo è tiranno, impareremo a fare anche quelli – Potato dumplings in a compostable PLA box – sorry we will learn to make them at home too!
• Ricotta in scatola di PET riciclabile / Ricotta cheese in a recyclable PET box
• Tovaglioli in carta riciclata Ecolabel e confezione in LDPE riciclabile / Ecolabel Recycled paper napkins in recyclable LDPE packaging
• Farina biologica in confezione di carta riciclabile / Organic flour in recyclable paper bag
• Zucchero semolato in confezione di carta riciclabile / White sugar in recyclable paper bag
• Sacchetti per rifiuti in HDPE riciclato all'80% e riclabile – ci servono per il giardino – / 80% recycled HDPE sacks, recyclable – we need them for garden waste

Insomma non ci siamo fatti mancare niente, eh?
E comunque nonostante la nostra attenzione, quando a casa abbiamo rivisto bene gli acquisti e abbiamo notato il nastro adesivo siamo rimasti noi stessi un po' male. Però ripensando a Mrs. A. che nella sua prima Settimana a Zero Rifiuti, lei, che è molto più brava di me, aveva gettato nella spazzatura solo un cerotto, mi sono un po' consolata.
Il peggio è arrivato nel pomeriggio, quando, avendo deciso di fare una torta di mele per festeggiare il mio passato compleanno, alla fine della lavorazione mi è servito il lievito istantaneo per dolci e l'unico che avevo era in bustine con l'interno plastificato! Arrrrgh!
Certo, non potevo fermarmi e poi buttare l'impasto, sarebbe stato uno spreco peggiore!
Una cosa è certa per il futuro bisogna trovare un'alternativa...
Così la serata si è conclusa mangiando una fetta di torta – che, forse per il dispiacere, è collassata al centro... che pasticciona! – e un bicchier di vino con un brindisi, non solo ai miei anni! In fondo dentro di noi quel brindisi era dedicato alla nostra parziale vittoria, quella di aver constatato, ancora di più, che i rifiuti si possono ridurre!
Quindi cin cin! E alla prossima sfida! ;)

And if we were very careful, when we returned home we control our purchases and discovered the scotch-tape piece... oh no! But rethinking on the great Mrs. A., who collected in her Zero Waste Week only one plaster, I consoled myself.
The worse arrived in the afternoon, when, deciding to make an apple cake to celebrate my past birthday, at the end of making I had to use the baking powder for cakes. The one I had was in a paper sachet with a plastic film inside! Arrrgh!
Of course I couldn't throw away the dough, it would have been a worse waste!
Only a thing was true at the end, we need more alternatives...
So, the evening ended with a piece of cake – that, pehaps for being sorry, was fold to the centre... what a bungler I am! – and a glass of wine to toast not only to my new age, but also to our partial victory, which one that made us ascertain that waste can be reduced!
